Winter Break

Berlin, the capital of Germany, is a multicultural city with up to 14 million yearly tourists and a population of 4 million inhabitants.

Berlin, the German capital, impresses with its extraordinary variety of sights, rich cultural life and a lively yet relaxed lifestyle. The city is characterized by the contrasts between historic buildings and contemporary architecture, between tradition and modernity. The history of an entire nation is told by Berlin's sights, from the Brandenburg Gate to the Federal Chancellery. The German capital is also home to all of the major government buildings, including the historic Reichstag as the seat of the German Parliament. Berlin is the city of the arts, artists and museums. Over 170 museums - including the world-famous Museum Island - show the treasures of the world. Important orchestras - such as the internationally acclaimed Berlin Philharmonic - and its three major opera houses with their sensational opera and ballet productions make Berlin an Eldorado for lovers of classical music from all over the world. And the numerous theatres, variety shows, revue theaters and numerous cabarets provide entertainment for every taste. The famous Kurfürstendamm, the elegant Friedrichstraße and the original boutiques around the Hackesche Höfe offer countless shopping opportunities. Berlin sets the latest trends in lifestyle, music and art. Inspired by the exuberant creativity, more and more artists from all over the world are coming to Berlin, making the metropolis one of the most exciting places in Europe. The constant change characterizes the lively metropolis, overflowing with energy. And yet Berlin is also a relaxed city with plenty of free space that leaves room to breathe. Berlin is the greenest metropolis in Germany with extensive parks, forests and lakes. In summer, life takes place outside: in the beach bars, cafes and in the open-air cinemas and theaters, where the sunshine and the balmy summer nights are enjoyed.

That is where we stayed during the winter holidays, but during these holidays something was different. The city was dead like a ghost town, but during that time a lot of opportunities opened up as less people crowded famous places. We visited a lot of famous but also many hidden and concealed cafes and restaurants, such as the 2d caffe at Alexanderplatz or at the Italian restaurant Crocodillo. The 2d caffe was very unique and surprising. The 2d caffe created the illusion of being 2d through lines and depth, in addition to that the food was fabulous. We personally recommend the caramel ice drink. The crocodile restaurant was an italian restaurant designed after the 80s. We ate the recommended pizza and risotto. During Christmas we went shopping, we bought each other gifts and ended up buying clothes at different shops. Moreover we found a very good ‘casual’ store called pull and bear. Later these holidays we went to a friend's birthday party and stayed until late at night. During that stay we met a lot of new friends, though some of them were not our age or at the same maturity level so that we would become good friends. A friend slept over at Vincent’s place from Hamburg for 3 days, during his stay we showed him around. We visited famous places such as the tv tower and different shopping malls. We also did different activities at Vincent's house, we ended up being four people, we did a lot of fun activities such as playing Uno or Valorant.
